Themes

Find an overview of the SDC's priority themes for multilateral cooperation.

Fragility and peacebuilding

The World Bank (WB) and other Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), the UN and the DAC donors, including Switzerland have committed to enhance their engagement in Fragile and Conflict Affected Countries (FCCs).

Gender equality and women's empowerment

Since the first United Nations conference on women in 1975 in Mexico and several decades of efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination of women and girls and achieve gender equality, considerable progress has been made. But gender disparities still remain in many areas, even in rich countries. The world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.

Management for development results (MfDR)

For Switzerland it is important that Multilateral Organisations (MO) with a mandate to provide development support and humanitarian aid deliver results and that their efforts are leading to improved outcomes.

Financing for Developoment (FfD)

Financing for Development is neither a pledging nor fundraising process to finance SDG implementation. It is meant to create the policy and fiscal space for developing countries to finance their development in a sustainable way.

Reform of the United Nations Development System

The Reform of the UN Development System (UNDS) was designed shortly after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda to ensure the UN’s effective and collective support to countries to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Coming into force in 2019, a key pillar of the reform at country level is the reinvigorated Resident Coordinator System.

2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The 2030 Agenda provides a comprehensive framework to address challenges to sustainable development at global and national levels. The 2030 Agenda comprises of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and calls for a more integrated approach of the United Nations Development System (UNDS) in support of partner countries.
