State Secretary Alexandre Fasel meets Turkish deputy foreign minister in Bern
Berne, 02.10.2026 — The meeting took place today as part of annual political consultations between Switzerland and Turkey. Discussions focused on bilateral relations and the challenges faced by the OSCE. They also covered a variety of regional and international issues.
FDFA State Secretary Alexandre Fasel and Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mehmet Kemal Bozay welcomed both the quality and diversity of bilateral relations. They discussed cooperation on the economy, migration, security, and mediation, as well as research and training.
The talks then turned to relations with Europe. Against this backdrop, discussions centred on collaboration with the European Union as non-member states. Furthermore, Mr Fasel emphasised the importance of respecting human rights commitments made under the aegis of the Council of Europe.
Mr Fasel and Mr Bozay also discussed the challenges facing the OSCE, and the war in Ukraine. They also held in-depth discussions on developments in the Middle East and agreed to hold consultations on the South Caucasus and the Western Balkans with the relevant departments of their respective ministries.
Generally held on an annual basis, these political consultations offer an opportunity to review bilateral cooperation and to maintain an in-depth dialogue between Switzerland and Turkey. The previous talks took place in Ankara on 22 May 2024.
